Frequently asked questions about hypnotherapy

These answers explain control, suitability, session numbers, fees and what happens during a consultation.

A note from Adel

There is no silly question here. If hypnosis sounds strange, that is usually because people have only seen the stage version or the film version. The real work is calmer, more collaborative and much less theatrical.

Yes. You stay in control throughout the session. You can speak, move, open your eyes, pause or stop at any point. Hypnotherapy is something we do together, not something done to you.
Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Hypnotherapy is a private, collaborative session focused on a change you have chosen. There is no performance and no expectation to act a certain way.
That is completely fine. You do not need to believe in anything mystical or force yourself to be convinced. We can keep it practical: what has been happening, what you want to change, and whether this way of working feels useful to you.
We usually begin with conversation, so I can understand what has been happening and what you want help with. Then I guide you into a relaxed, absorbed state and use therapeutic work shaped around you. Afterwards we take a little time to settle, reflect and talk about what to notice next.
There is no fixed number. It depends on your goal, your situation and what you notice in daily life. We agree a priority and when to review it, then decide together whether to continue, adjust the approach or finish. You are not locked into a set course.
I explain the fees during the free consultation after discussing the type of support that may be suitable. There is no obligation to book.
Hypnotherapy may help some people work with anxious feelings by practising calmer responses and different ways of responding to familiar triggers. It is not a replacement for medical or psychiatric care, and if your situation needs specialist support, that matters.
It can support confidence work by helping with self-doubt, old beliefs, inner criticism and the emotional patterns underneath how you see yourself. Confidence is not something you force. Often it is something you rebuild through safety, self-trust and new evidence.
Not always. Hypnotherapy is not suitable for every person or every situation. During the consultation we can talk about any medical or mental-health history that might matter. If another route seems more appropriate, such as a GP, NHS Talking Therapies, psychiatry or specialist support, I will say so.
IPHM stands for the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine. I am an IPHM Accredited Practitioner, membership no. IPHMNM16918. This is professional accreditation rather than statutory healthcare registration, and it does not mean that IPHM guarantees a particular service or outcome. I am also fully insured and work within a clear professional scope. You can view my IPHM directory entry.
That is very common. You do not have to arrive calm, confident or perfectly prepared. The first consultation is there to answer questions, explain the process and let you get a feel for whether this is right for you.
I offer in person sessions in Rugby, Warwickshire, and online sessions where appropriate. Online work can be a good option if travelling is difficult or you feel more settled at home.
It is a free 30-minute video conversation. You can describe what you would like help with, ask questions and discuss suitable support and fees. There is no obligation to book a paid session.
A Care Note

When urgent or medical support is needed

Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical, psychiatric or emergency support. If you are in crisis, at risk of harm, or worried someone else may be at risk, contact emergency services or an appropriate crisis support service.
